The Texas Rangers and the Baltimore Orioles meet Tuesday in MLB action from Oriole Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Monday opener, the Orioles posted an extra-innings win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Texas played the Mets over the weekend, bagging a win Saturday but falling in the other two games. On Monday versus Baltimore, the Rangers scored five runs in the fifth inning but couldn’t hold on in a 7-6 loss. Starter Dane Dunning put up three earned in 5.1 frames on seven hits and a walk.
For the starter gig Tuesday, Texas will send out Spencer Howard. In three games (one start) so far this year Howard is 0-1 with a 12.15 ERA. Over his 6.2 innings Howard has nine earned on 10 hits and two walks with 12 Ks.
Over on the Orioles’ side, they played the Twins in their last set. Baltimore lost two of three in that one as well. On Monday, the O’s had 12 hits in the 10-inning win. Dean Kremer finished with five earned in 4.2 innings on eight hits and two walks in the start.
Austin Voth will take the mound for the Orioles on Tuesday. Over his six games (three starts) so far this year Voth is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA. In 12.0 innings total he has four earned on 13 hits and five walks with 12 Ks.
The Rangers are 17-4 in their last 21 in game two of a series and 51-106 in their last 157 road games. The over is 13-6-1 in Texas’ last 20 road games.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 31-64 in their last 95 Tuesday games and 134-291 in their last 425 versus a right-handed starter. Baltimore is 24-64 in their last 88 in game two of a series.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Orioles. Voth has notched a few good appearances in his last trio. During that stretch he has two earned in 8.2 total innings on seven hits and four walks. Voth hasn’t gone past 3.0 innings in any of those games, but if he can get a few solid frames in the books Baltimore should be set up well. So long as the bullpen can close it out, that is.
