Tampa played a long series versus the Blue Jays over the weekend, ultimately winning three of five games. On Monday versus the Sox, Tampa posted just two hits in a tough 4-0 loss. Starter Jalen Beeks went 2.0 innings with two hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Jeffrey Springs will take the mound for the Rays on Tuesday in the start. Over his 18 games (10 starts) Springs is 3-2 with a 2.25 ERA. Over 60.0 total innings he has 15 earned on 47 hits and 13 walks with 65 Ks.
Over on the Red Sox’ side, they didn’t fare too well versus the Cubs over the weekend and won just one of three games. On Monday, Boston posted 11 hits on the way to the victory. Kutter Crawford did most of the pitching work with 5.1 innings, two hits and a walk.
Nick Pivetta will be making the start for Boston on Tuesday. Over his 16 starts so far Pivetta is 8-5 with a 3.23 ERA. In 94.2 innings he has 34 earned on 74 hits and 32 walks alongside 91 strikeouts.
The Rays are 27-13 in their last 40 in game two of a series and 4-9 in their last 13 versus a team with a winning record. The over is 37-17-1 in Tampa’s last 55 in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 20-6 in their last 26 on grass and 21-8 in their last 29 overall. Boston is 5-12 in their last 17 versus the AL East.
PICK: I’m going to try Boston in this one. Pivetta is on a pretty solid run right now. Over his last three games he’s posted 20.0 combined innings with five earned on 18 hits and seven walks. Pivetta has gone at least 6.0 innings in each of those outings as well. As for Springs, he’s got seven earned on 14 hits and a walk over his last 10.1 innings but should be okay here. I like this one to be tight and competitive the whole way; should be a fun rivalry game to watch.
