Pavelski finishes second to Romo at American Century Golf Championship

Joe Pavelsky was close, but not close enough at the 2022 American Century Celebrity (ACC) Golf Championship on Sunday.

The Dallas Stars forward went all the way to a second playoff hole but lost to form Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current NFL analyst Tony Romo. It was Romo’s third time winning the event.

The ACC features nearly one hundred athletes and entertainers for the three day event at Eaglewood Tahoe South in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. It is a points-based scoring system, with one point awarded for a par, three for a birdie, six for an eagle and eight for a hole-in-one. Zero points are awarded for bogeys and minus-2 is given for a double bogey.

Pavelski put up the third round’s highest point total with 27. The big day allowed him to tie Romo and former MLB All-Star pitcher Mark Mulder with 62 points after 54 holes.

The trio all tied the first playoff hole, but Romo edged Pavelski with a birdie on the second playoff hole to take the title. Pavelski shared a hug with Romo after his clinching putt.

Hockey Hall of Fame forward Mike Modano, who played 20 of his 21 NHL seasons for the Dallas Stars franchise [including four when they were still the Minnesota North Stars]finished in seventh place with 55 points.

Washington Capitals forward TJ Oshie placed 11th with 47 points.

Rounding out the top 10 after Romo, Pavelski and Mulder were former LPGA great Annika Sorenstam and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen [58 points each]former professional tennis player Mardy Fish [56]Modano, train MLB pitcher Derek Lowe [54]Green Bay Packers quarterback and four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers [50] and form NFL MVP Marshall Faulk [49].

Charles Barkley, a former NBA MVP and current NBA on TNT analyst, a noted hockey fan, finished tied for 74th place with minus-26 points.
