The San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres meet Friday in MLB action from Petco Park. This will be the second installment in a four-game weekend series. In the Thursday opener, the Padres posted a walk-off win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
San Francisco played the Diamondbacks this week, losing the first pair before a Wednesday victory 7-5. On Thursday versus the Padres, the Giants had just two hits in a 2-1 defeat over 10 innings. Starter Logan Webb finished on 8.0 innings, one earned, six hits and a walk.
Sam Long will take the mound for the Giants on Friday. Long is 0-1 with a 1.78 ERA and 19 strikeouts this year.
Over on the Padres’ side, they played a pair versus the Mariners this week and didn’t have any luck with two losses 8-2 and 6-2. On Thursday, San Diego’s win was bittersweet; left fielder Jurickson Profar was injured in a scary outfield collision. Joe Musgrove went 7.0 clean frames in the start with one hit and four walks alongside six Ks.
Starting pitcher for the Padres on Friday will be Blake Snell. This year in eight starts Snell is 0-5 with a 5.13 ERA. Over 40.1 innings he has 23 earned on 36 hits and 23 walks with 50 strikeouts.
PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on the Padres. Snell had a couple of rough starts versus the Rockies and Phillies recently with a combined eight earned in 10.1 innings on 11 hits and six walks. The good news is that Snell bounced back in his last outing versus the Dodgers. He managed 5.0 innings with one earned, four hits and four walks in that one. Snell does have 10 walks over his last three starts, but if he can keep the damage minimal here I can see San Diego finding a win.
